I originally studied chemistry at the Philipps University of Marburg. After my BSc degree, I decided to focus on biochemistry and enjoyed internships in several life science labs in Marburg. Moving deeper into cell and tumor biology, I completed my MSc thesis with Prof. Thorsten Stiewe, focusing on the tumor suppressor protein p63, a truncated version of which functions as an oncogene in diverse cancer types. In 2017, I joined the Lorenz lab as a PhD student and dissected the structural mechanisms of ligand recognition by the transcription factor MIZ1. Since my graduation in the fall of 2021, I am pursuing a new, exciting project as a postdoc in our lab, focussing on specificity mechanisms of full-length HECT ligases by biochemical and cell biological techniques as well as cryo EM.
