Biomedizinische NMR
Welcome to the homepage of Biomedizinische NMR (BiomedNMR) – a research laboratory at the Max-Planck-Institut für biophysikalische Chemie in Göttingen, Germany. BiomedNMR is devoted to the development of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Non-invasive MRI techniques provide unique insights into the structure, metabolism, and function of intact living organisms.
BiomedNMR represents an interdisciplinary team of researchers. Our current research projects focus on advanced MRI techniques for data acquisition and iterative image reconstruction using numerical mathematics. Respective progress allows for the recording of high-speed MRI movies in real time, that is image series with acquisition times of only 20 to 30 milliseconds.
Real-time MRI opens a wide range of new research fields that again broaden the scientific and clinical potential of MRI. First applications range from turbulent flow and phonetic aspects of speaking to swallowing mechanics and cardiovascular function. Further extensions provide improved quantitative maps of physical and physiological parameters and promise online MRI control of minimally invasive interventions.
Our core competence combines MRI methodology with interdisciplinary research in the biomedical sciences. Extending into translational research (see for example our Real-time MRI section), many of our goals are achieved through strategic collaborations with researchers and clinicians.
