I obtained my biochemistry BSc degree at the Georg-August University in Göttingen and my MSc degree at the Technical University Munich, where I specialized in Biophysical Chemistry. During a three-month internship, I gained experience in biophysical methods and structural biology, including 3D NMR spectroscopy. Afterwards, I wrote my master’s thesis in the Molecular Machines and Signaling department of Prof. Brenda Schulman at the Max-Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Martinsried. I studied E2-E3 protein complexes using cryo-EM and became a fan of the ubiquitin field. Thus, I moved back to Göttingen for my PhD to investigate HECT E3 ligases by cell biological and structural methods here in Sonja’s lab.
