I come from Vietnam, a beautiful country in Southeast Asia. After training in Chemical Engineering at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, the desire to understand how complex living systems are built and operated motivated me to join the lab of Dr. Alejandro Sánchez Alvarado at the University of Utah and Stowers Institute for Medical Research for my PhD. In the Sanchez lab, I studied regeneration and evolution of organ systems (in particular the excretory system) using the planarian flatworm Schmidtea mediteranea as a model system. The love for planarians led me to continue my scientific career as a postdoc in the Rink lab, initially at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics and more recently at the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences. Here, I study how planarian body size and shape is regulated. And I am very excited to see where the science takes me!
