What drives a scientific career — and what gets in its way? In this talk, Emma will reflect on her journey as a woman in science, sharing personal insights, moments of challenge, and lessons in resilience.
What does it take to navigate a scientific career as a woman in a system built on competition?
In this talk, Emma will share her personal milestones, challenges, and turning points of her career in science — from early inspirations to key decisions shaped by mentors, motivation, and moments of doubt. What does it mean to move through a male-dominated field, how has her perspective evolved over time, and what would she tell her younger self? These are the questions we're going to be delving deep into!
Looking beyond the personal, Emma will also explore a deeper systemic issue: the culture of competitiveness in academia. How does it shape leadership, collaboration, and well-being? What happens when ambition meets isolation — and how can we lead differently to build healthier research environments?
This talk invites us to rethink success, leadership, and support in science — and to imagine a more sustainable path forward.
