Facility for Transmission Electron Microscopy
Fassberg Campus
Our mission
We offer access to a variety of transmission electron microscopy techniques both at room temperature and under cryogenic conditions. We offer users support from the experimental planning of experiments to the execution of transmission electron microscopy experiments in 2D and 3D on biological samples.
What we offer
We offer all members of the MPI-NAT Campus support in the practical realisation as well as the planning and evaluation of transmission electron microscopy experiments. We carry out analyses and immunogold labelling of proteins, protein complexes and purified organelles at room temperature and under cryogenic conditions. Morphological questions can be answered using ultra-thin sections of embedded samples that have been chemically fixed at room temperature or fixed under cryogenic conditions using the high-pressure freezing method or the Tokuyasu technique. The given samples are visualised and evaluated in both 2D and 3D using electron tomography.
How we work
Researchers from the MPI-NAT interested in TEM experiments should send us details about the experiment, sample, buffer conditions, and their expectations of the experiment. We will then arrange an appointment and carry out the experiments. The results will be transmitted in digital form.
In individual cases, we train interested users in the use of our methods, or provide the microscope for experienced users only.
