Debojit started his scientific career at St. Xavier's University in India where he completed his B.Sc. in Microbiology. He then completed his Master's degree in Biochemistry at the University of Hyderabad, where he identified the TRPC6 channel as an emerging determinant of podocyte cell injury in kidney disease. He then moved to Göttingen to join the MSc/PhD International Max Planck Research School for Molecular Biology. During his PhD in the Schuh lab, he studied the age-dependent decline in female fertility, focusing on RNAs and proteins involved in successful chromosome segregation in mammalian oocytes.
