After growing up across several countries, my persistent interest in science led me to study molecular biology for my BSc at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, where I had my first research experience by working on GPCR interactions. My exposure to the intricate interactions among organic molecules and the emergent properties that enable life have deeply fascinated me and therefore, I decided to build a career within science. I traveled (once again) to Göttingen to join the IMPRS Molecular Biology program, during which I have worked and gained experience in different fields, including oncology, signalling of B cells, and protein biochemistry. After doing my third rotation in the Lorenz lab, I found great fulfillment by conducting basic research as we examined regulatory biochemical mechanisms in the ubiquitination machinery. Subsequently, I have joined the Lorenz group again for a MSc thesis project to continue employing a variety of approaches to understand and model biological concepts.
