Fieldwork in Menorca

Last week, a few lab members went on a short collection trip to the mediterranean island Menorca, Spain. The main aim was to collect asexual Schmidtea mediterranea. S. mediterranea is the principal model organism for the planarian field, where we all study a single clonal line. So we wanted to go to the field to capture more genetic variability.

We are happy to say we successfully found them in the wild and brought some animals back to Göttingen!
