Facility for Cryo-Electron Microscopy
Our mission
Our mission is to support our users throughout their cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) projects, including experimental design, sample optimization, and final data acquisition.
What we offer
The Cryo-Electron Microscopy Facility provides access to high-end infrastructure for single-particle cryo-EM and cryo-ET. We are equipped to support all flavours of single-particle cryo-EM (vitreous ice, graphene and carbon support films) and have broad experience in advising on biochemical sample optimization (detergents, additives, crosslinking). In addition, we offer equipment and support for cryo-ET sample preparation (single side blotting, manual blotting, stereo microscopes) as well as correlative workflows (CLEM), FIB-milling (including automation) and state-of-the art tomography data acquisition schemes (dose-symmetric tomography, PACE-tomography). Currently, we cannot provide infrastructure/service for cryo-EM data storage or data processing.
How we work
The facility trains users such that they can independently master the entire workflow from sample preparation to data acquisition. This includes independent access and usage of our microscopes. We are constantly supporting users at all experience levels and can provide in-depth theoretical background training upon request.
