Experimenting, tinkering, discovering
At the Future Day on April 3, around 70 school students explored the diverse fields of work at the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Multidisciplinary Sciences.

Whether microscoping egg cells in the laboratory, working in the carpentry, or assembling a computer – the participants were able to get a taste of twelve departments, research groups, and workshops at the institute.

In the Department of Molecular Biology, the students engraved their names on a hair using a miniature workbench, among other things. “The students’ interest and creativity impress us every year. That is why we want to offer them the opportunity to discover the world of science,” explains Ulrich Steuerwald. The biologist helped shape the department’s program.
“It is great to see how the researchers inspire the children and the scientists of tomorrow,” says Celina Böker, organizer of the Future Day at the MPI. “We also want to show the children that many different professions are important for working at a research institute.” In addition to scientific areas, the students were therefore also able to work in the in-house carpentry, precision mechanics workshop, and IT & Electronics Service.
The next Future Day is scheduled for April 23, 2026. Registration is expected to open on the website at the beginning of next near. (pj)
