MPI-NAT Seminar: Mitochondrial homeostasis and turnover
Mitochondria are fascinating organelles at the heart of cellular energy production, metabolism, and cell death, yet their dysfunction can have devastating consequences for the cell. How cells protect these essential structures from dysfunction remains a fundamental question. In my talk, I will discuss new insights in two distinct but interconnected systems that safeguard mitochondrial integrity: dynamic chaperones and selective autophagy pathways. By integrating reconstitution biochemistry with cell biology, this work sheds light on fundamental mechanisms of cellular protection, with potential implications for understanding disease and developing new therapies.
