MPI-NAT Seminar: AI for Microscopy
Microscopy is one of the most important experimental techniques in the life sciences. Different techniques can image cells, tissues, or organisms with a high resolution, over large fields of view, or over long periods of time. All these methods have one commonality: They produce large amounts of data, which are often very difficult to analyze. My research group specializes in creating artificial intelligence (AI) methods to address this challenge and analyze microscopy data for cutting edge research questions. I will give an overview of the field and then present three concrete projects from my group: Building a powerful model for cell segmentation in light microscopy, validating genetic therapies targeting hearing deficiencies using AI-based analysis of light sheet microscopy, and deciphering the structure and molecular organization of synapses based on electron microscopy.
