Crank up your brain!

A brand-new eye-catcher can be discovered now between wildflower meadows, shrubs, and our pond: a interactive quiz board. It did not come from a catalog; it grew out of a cross-departmental trainee project on sustainability. Apprentices from the Electronics and Precision Mechanics workshops planned and built it, while the Communication & Media team supplied the layout and the quiz questions. The frame was built by trainees from our Carpentry.

From the first sketch to the last screw, the apprentices handled everything: cutting stainless steel plaques, engraving questions, soldering circuit boards, wiring electronics, and sealing the whole unit against the elements. The result is a board that can withstand wind and rain – and needs no mains socket.

Before you start, you will need to put in some muscle power: Turn the crank on the side long enough to charge a capacitor. Then tackle nine questions on biodiversity and our biotope. There are two possible answers for each question. Hit the correct one and the Max Planck Minerva in the center lights up green; miss it and it flashes red, and the crank will be ready for another try.

Curious? On your next stroll through the BioDiversum, stop by, crank up your brain, and see how often you can make the Minerva shine green!
