Ihsan is from Central Anatolia in Turkey, a place that is (contrary to most people’s ideas about Turkey) hundreds of kilometres away from the nearest sea and definitely does not have a Mediterranean climate at any time of the year. Ihsan completed his BSc and MSc studies in the same landlocked region. He then moved to beautiful Dresden to study the molecular basis of homologous recombination during prophase I of meiosis that enables faithful homolog chromosome segregation. Ihsan obtained his PhD in 2017 and decided to stick around for a bit longer, not least because he liked the topic, but also because Dresden is nowhere near the sea. Since November 2021, he investigates the role of germ cell environment during gametogenesis in Schuh lab, while enjoying charming Göttingen, its vibrant research community and Grimm Brothers' fairy tales associated with the town and the surroundings.
